1. Find a business owner and talk to them about their customers. I choose a local car wash near my house. The car wash has been established since I was in middle school and seems to be doing very well. Unfortunately the owner declined to be recorded.
A. Who do you think your target customers are? People who are too busy to wash their own car and want the job done right. Most of my customers are adults that work a lot or the elderly.
B. What are your customers unmet needs? The customers come here because they don't have the time to wash their cars or they don't have the right equipment. We have everything here to give customer's cars a full car wash by using a pressure wash, vacuum, and tire wash.
C. Where do you find your customers? My car wash is in a good location so my customers drive by and come in. Other customers are from word of mouth.
D. What are your customers demographics? My customers are of all ages.
E. Who is your 20%? Returning customers
2.
3. Reflection: The car wash is a simple business where the customers unmet needs are easily achieved. As long as the car wash does a good job on the car wash at the right price people will be happy with their service. The three customers I interviewed seemed pretty happy with their cars and there doesn't seem to be any differences between the owner and the customer.
Hey Peter,
ReplyDeleteI think that you did a good job on this assignment. The entrepreneur that I interviewed also declined to be recorded. I even had a hard time finding customers that didn't mind it because it made them uneasy for some reason. I think that the owner of the car wash definitely understands his customer base and the research collected from your interviews supports that. Hey! I like that you were able to get all of your interviews and compare them to the business owner. However, it appears to me that you cut down on the questions a lot when interviewing target customers. I don't know if this was the best choice since it doesn't allow you to draw as many conclusions or gather as much information to compare. I also had my business owner decline to be recorded, but I think that both our business owners seemed to have a pretty good understanding of their customer base. Definitely think about expanding your questions and not limiting yourself to yes or no type questions next time you interview, but otherwise, great job.

Peter, I was interested to find what you discovered out about this car washing business. I think it's good that the owner knows his demographic and the target customers that support his 20%. I find it interesting that he claimed the elderly and the working class make up a lot of his demographic, yet the three customer interviews are people who are younger and seem to be college aged. I wonder if his location to campus plays a part in his target customers as well. Great job on your interviews, very insightful! Check out my blog here: http://buschuf.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteHi! I think it is awesome you were able to find people that actually agreed to be recorded, unfortunately none of the customers I had available to me wanted to be recorded so my grade reflected. But anyways, I think this was a great kind of local business to use. If you want you can check out my post here, http://anaksunamoon216.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-twenty-percent.html
